The most common mistake in Del Mar kitchen remodeling is treating it as a finish-selection project rather than a layout project. New cabinet doors over the original box, quartz countertops replacing Corian, and a subway tile backsplash — these changes look like a remodel in photographs, but the cook's triangle is still broken, the refrigerator still swings into the walkway, and there's still nowhere to put a sheet pan that doesn't block something else. A kitchen that functions well solves those problems first, then applies the finishes. One that doesn't usually needs to be redone within a decade because the frustrations that drove the original remodel never actually went away.
