Adding Functional Living Space to Your Property

Mullen Construction builds accessory dwelling units that add a separate, fully functional living space to your property, designed to meet California zoning regulations and local building codes. You get a complete ADU from initial design and permitting through foundation, framing, mechanical systems, and final finishes. These units serve as long-term rental income sources, private guest accommodations, or dedicated living spaces for aging parents or adult children who need proximity without sharing the main house.

The process involves evaluating your lot for setback requirements, utility access, and maximum allowable square footage under current ADU laws. California regulations have streamlined permitting for detached ADUs, but local jurisdictions still enforce specific rules about height limits, parking requirements, and fire safety standards. You work with designers who understand these constraints and create layouts that maximize usable space without triggering additional review or variance requests.

After construction, you will notice that the ADU has its own address, separate utility meters if required, and finishes that match or complement the main house. Mullen Construction handles the permit submittals, coordinates inspections at each stage, and ensures that plumbing, electrical, and structural work all pass without requiring costly revisions or delays.
